Frequently Asked Questions

What is water transport delivery?

Water transport delivery means that your yacht is delivered to its destination by sailing or motoring it under its own power, captained by an experienced professional crew, rather than being transported by truck or ship.

What types of boats do you deliver?

We deliver both powerboats and sailing vessels, monohulls and catamarans of most sizes, from coastal cruisers to offshore-capable yachts. Each delivery is evaluated individually based on vessel condition, route, and timing.

Who will be captaining my boat?

Your boat will be captained by a licensed, insured, and lifelong mariner with over 50 years of experience. Crew size and qualifications are matched to the boat and route. Read more about Captain Marion Dunsmore ->

Is my boat insured during delivery?

Yes. Yacht delivery is typically covered under your existing insurance policy. We coordinate with you and your insurer to ensure that the route, dates, and captain meet all coverage requirements before departure.

How long will the delivery take?

Delivery time depends on distance, weather, and routing. All schedules are estimates, as safety and weather conditions always take priority.

What preparation is required before delivery?

Your boat should be seaworthy and properly equipped. All boats are inspected by the skipper prior to departure. See our Yacht Delivery: What to Expect page for more information.

Will the boat need to be dismantled?

No. One of the advantages of water delivery is that vessels do not need to be dismantled. Masts remain in place and vessels arrive at the dock ready for travel.

How often will I receive updates during the delivery?

We agree on a communication plan in advance. Most owners receive regular updates with position reports, weather conditions, and progress notes throughout the passage.

What happens if repairs are needed during delivery?

If any issues arise, the captain will notify you immediately. No repairs beyond basic safety measures are performed without owner approval unless required to protect the vessel.

Can I come along for part or all of the delivery?

Yes.

What costs are involved?

Delivery costs typically include captain and crew fees, travel expenses, fuel, and dockage during the trip. A detailed estimate is provided in advance.

What happens at the end of the delivery?

At arrival, the boat is secured, and a handover is completed. You’ll receive a condition report and notes on any observations made during the passage. See our Yacht Delivery Essentials page for more information.
